Morton Fraser MacRoberts leads industry discussion on Grenfell inquiry findings
Representatives from across the industry were brought together for a breakfast seminar to discuss the impact of the Grenfell Inquiry Report on Scotland’s construction sector.
Held last week by Morton Fraser MacRoberts, the seminar attracted attendees including employers, developers, architects, engineers, contractors and professional bodies such as the RIAS and RICS. It was organised to encourage all sections of the industry to examine the findings and recommendations of the Grenfell Inquiry report, which have far-reaching implications for the sector in Scotland.
The guest speaker, Professor Jose Torero of University College London, a leading industry expert and principal technical adviser to the Grenfell Inquiry, delivered an insightful presentation. He summarised seven years of investigations, unpacking the complexities of the findings and the reasoning behind the numerous recommendations.
Neil Kelly, partner within MFMac’s Infrastructure and Capital Projects team, said: “While Scotland has its own regulatory framework for building standards, distinct from that of England and Wales, the lessons from the Grenfell disaster go beyond national borders. Although the Scottish Parliament has already taken legislative action on some matters following Grenfell, the seminar made it clear that there is still much work to be done.
“The construction industry must act decisively to learn from this tragedy and implement the Inquiry’s recommendations to drive meaningful and lasting change. Wednesday’s event was standing room only, reflecting the widespread interest and commitment within the construction sector to address the findings of the Grenfell Inquiry.”
The MFMac Infrastructure and Capital Projects team is involved in most of Scotland’s key infrastructure projects, acting in over 50 public-private partnership (PPP) projects with a total value of over £4 billion.
