Muirhead school pupils hear about health and safety from Persimmon

Pupils at St Barbara’s Primary School in Muirhead hosted local construction experts to talk about health and safety.

Staff from five-star homebuilder Persimmon West Scotland paid a visit to St Barbara’s Primary School in Muirhead to talk to students and staff about the importance of health and safety around construction sites.

The company is creating its Royale Meadows development in Muirhead, just along the road from the primary school.

Persimmon construction manager Laurence Watson, alongside customer care manager and local parent Claire Eadie, spoke to pupils about what is involved in building new homes and highlighted the importance of staying a safe distance from construction sites.

As part of the visit, pupils were given copies of ‘Cones and Building Homes’ – a children’s book commissioned by Persimmon to teach children about health and safety and introduce them to the world of work in the construction sector.

Mr Watson said: “Health and safety is a top priority for us, which is why it was great to have the opportunity to visit St Barbara’s and talk to pupils about what happens on a construction site and the importance of staying safe.

“The pupils were a credit to their school, and I hope the books we donated will inspire some of them to think about a career in construction in the future.”
