The application submitted by Walker Group (Scotland) Ltd comprises 190 houses with associated access roads, parking, sustainable draining systems and amenity open space.

If approved, the proposed development would be built just off the north of Hamilton Road, on land between Blantyre and Drumsagard.

Halfway Community Council has argued that new homes in the area would place unnecessary strain on local roads, schools and amenities which are already struggling due to overpopulation.

The community council is due to hold its first meeting of the year tonight where it will discuss the planning application. A public meeting is also planned.
