Maryhill Housing Association has earmarked a former schoolhouse at Shakespeare Street in Maryhill to be used as supported accommodation.

The former schoolhouse - known as Killearn Bungalow - is a five-apartment red sandstone building which has also been used for short-term emergency accommodation.

Negotiations on its disposal can now begin between the council and Maryhill Housing Association. On successful completion of negotiations, the housing association will refurbish the property and use it as supported accommodation. This disposal would support the council’s housing objectives.

The second disposal involves two plots of unmaintained land totalling 9.19 hectares at Kenmuir Road in Carmyle.

The negotiation on the two plots (separated by a disused railway line) in Carmyle will take place between the council and Carmyle Developments Limited. The disposal of the plots would generate a capital receipt for the council.

This company - which owns the adjoining land - has a planning application for a residential development at the land adjacent to Kenmuir Road and River Road, with highway improvements and other associated works there part of the proposals.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Neighbourhood Services and Assets at Glasgow City Council, said: “We continue to support development in both the social and private sector, and these negotiations will hopefully result in more land and buildings being put to use providing much-needed housing in the city. New homes in Carmyle and Maryhill will be greatly welcomed, and the capital receipts raised would be put to use delivering public services and infrastructure for the people of Glasgow.”
