Network Rail begins £8m track renewal work

Network Rail is investing more than £8 million replacing ageing track on the lines between Glasgow and Kilwinning as well as between Dundee and Aberdeen.

Network Rail begins £8m track renewal work

Over the next four weekends, engineers will be working to renew over a mile of track at various locations including Howwood, Glengarnock and Dalgarven, and two miles of track at various locations around Cove Bay, Montrose, and Arbroath.

The teams will replace old, worn railway track by removing it and laying new stone ballast, sleepers and rails.

Due to the complexity of the engineering work, these projects cannot be delivered without some short-term closures of the line.

Liam Sumpter, Network Rail route director for Scotland, said: “The work we are undertaking is vital for the long-term future reliability of the line.

“Our engineers will be working around-the-clock to complete these complex projects as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience these works will cause to some passengers and residents and we thank them for their patience. We are committed to completing this work quickly and limiting disruption as much as possible.”
