MVV Environment, a subsidiary of German firm MVV Energie, said the new plant will supplement the existing plant at Baldovie.

The company said it is in discussion with both Dundee City and Angus councils about the project, which it believes will help them meet their commitments under the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan.

This will prevent local authorities sending biodegradable waste to landfill from 2021.

It is hoped the plant, which will burn biodegradable waste, will create 20 permanent jobs, support 70 indirectly and another 300 during the construction phase.

A Proposal of Application notice has been lodged with Dundee City Council.

Paul Carey, managing director at MVV Environment, told The Courier: “Although our investment proposals are at very early stage, we believe that transparent effective community consultation is an essential part of the planning process.

‘’The public exhibitions will provide an opportunity for the local community to get information about the proposed development first hand.

“Our team will listen to the views of local people and use the chance to take on board comments received to help shape and inform the proposals ahead of more detailed plans being lodged.

“The Baldovie Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power Facility could play a major role in reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill throughout Dundee and Angus as well as improving recycling and promote a smaller carbon footprint.

“Both councils are committed to delivering significant improvements in the way waste is treated, and MVV is keen to bring forward proposals that help the councils achieve this objective.”
