New apprenticeship opportunities created at Marshall Construction

Marshall Construction has announced the creation of nine new apprenticeships for various roles within the business.

The firm’s long-standing history of bringing through new trade apprentices into the industry has continued this year with the hiring of six new trade apprentices and three new technical/professional apprentices.

Marshall said while the Covid-19 Pandemic restricted its normal intake last year, this has been remedied and increased with its completed Apprentice Recruitment Programme for 2021.

This year’s trade apprentices are Robbie Connor, Iona Hewlett and Rhys Thomson as apprentice joiners, Jack Donald as an electrician, Bailey McEwan as a plant mechanic and Oliver Easton as a painter and decorator.

In addition to the trade apprenticeships, the business decided to invest in the future of its staff by offering three apprenticeships in professional roles.

As a result, Ross Noble and Jamie MacDonald will be joining as apprentice construction managers along with Lewis Dale who will be starting as an apprentice quantity surveyor.

Marshall Construction said it is looking forward to all the new apprentices joining over the coming weeks and wished them the best of luck in their respective careers within the business.

Chairman Robert Marshall commented: ”Marshall Construction’s Apprenticeship Programme is very close to my heart as I believe that construction is a fantastic career choice for young people today. If you do well in construction and gain a trade the scope for career development is endless.

“Historically we find that our apprentices are keen, highly motivated people who want to learn and help our business to grow. Some of our previous apprentices have left and started their own businesses, which sets them up for life. Most of our current managers came from organic growth within the business whom we have trained to our own standards. As a privately-owned business, we recognise and reward talent and ensure that it is nurtured so people can progress as far as they are able or aspire to.”

Brian McDermott, managing director, Marshall Construction, added: “Marshall Construction is committed to apprenticeships as an important way of bringing a diverse range of talented people into the company and the overall construction industry. Marshall Construction apprentices are an excellent example of the value and positive impact Modern Apprentices can have in tackling youth unemployment and providing a talented and skilled workforce for the industry’s future.

“As a business we have consistently shown our commitment in nurturing emerging talent year after year, we are extremely driven when it comes to skill sets and development it really helps when you have enthusiastic and capable apprentices who are keen and willing to learn. Apprentices play an important role within our economy and it’s good to see work is already underway with the next generation.”
