New Artists Centre to be delivered by Clark Contracts
The £1.4m construction contract for a new Artists Centre at Peaton Hill, on the Rosneath Peninsula in Argyll and Bute has been awarded by Cove Park to Clark Contracts.
Cove Park provides interdisciplinary artistic programmes across performing, visual arts, crafts, literature and music, for both individuals and groups, offering time and space to make new work and find new ways of working.
The new centre, designed by architects Cameron Webster, will support Cove Park’s expanding programme of artist residencies and public events, with spaces for workshops and performances and comfortable communal space for visitors.
Works have commenced on site, with the demolition of the previous centre, in preparation for the construction of the new single storey building. When completed next Spring, it will comprise two accommodation units and two studios, increase Cove Park’s capacity to twelve and allow a greater diversity of residencies for individuals and groups.
Chair of Cove Park’s Board, Dame Seona Reid said: “This is an exciting time for Cove Park. The new building will offer facilities for artists and the public that will enhance our growing international reputation as a centre of excellence for the arts.”
Michael Scanlan, Director, Clark Contracts, said: “We look forward to working with Cove Park to deliver this important project.”
The project is being funded by Creative Scotland and a number of trusts and individuals, including major awards from the Robertson and Monument Trusts.
