A total of eight affordable flats, four bungalows and two houses are to be built at Ladyland Road in the town.

To make the site safe for construction and habitation, a hazardous spoil must be removed and a layer of “inert soil” laid down to cover the plot and make it safe.

Construction is expected to start in March with completion anticipated for February 2021.

The site, owned by South Ayrshire Council, had been on the market for £300,000 but failed to sell, Carrick Today reports.

The ‘cottage flats’ and bungalows will comprise of one-bedroom while the houses will have two.

Plans to move ahead with the development and hire a contractor were approved by local councillors at a recent leadership panel meeting. The site was formerly as school as well as a council depot which had been lying unoccupied for years.

The project is expected to cost £2.97 million.

The Scottish Government will contribute £59,000 towards the cost of building each home. However, the majority of the cash will be drawn from the council’s Housing Revenue Account.
