New council homes completed in Bellshill
Tenants are settling into their new homes as North Lanarkshire Council marked the completion of its latest new council house building project at Community Road, Bellshill.
The Community Road development, which comprises 29 new homes for rent, is in the heart of the local community and forms part of a new council house building programme which aims to deliver 5,000 new homes by 2035.
The new homes include 25 x 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses (3 of which are designed for wheelchair users); 2 x 1 bedroom cottage flats; 1 x 2 bedroom wheelchair standard bungalow and 1 x 3 bedroom wheelchair standard bungalow.
Marking the completion of the development was housing convener, Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, who was joined Pamela Humphries, Laura Quinn, Robbie Mooney, Billy Hetherton and Tony Mallaghan from the council’s housing and new supply teams and Chris Murray from developer CCG (Scotland). And new tenant, Patrick Talbot, welcomed the convener into his new family home.
Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey said: “It’s always pleasing to see the completion of our new build projects, from the initial sod cutting to our tenants moving in and making their new houses their new homes. It was great to meet the Talbot family today, visit them in their new home and hear first-hand their experience of moving into one of our new builds.
“We’re making real progress in delivering more new affordable homes across North Lanarkshire, regenerating our communities and town centres, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. I hope our tenants enjoy their new homes which are built for the future and will last for generations to come – all part of our long-term vision to make North Lanarkshire the place to live.”
The new homes all meet Housing for Varying Needs, which means homes are more accessible to adapt to tenants’ mobility needs and are secure by design. They are also designed to be sustainable, well insulated and highly energy efficient, benefiting our tenants’ comfort and tackling fuel poverty.
The council has now completed 1,016 new homes across 45 sites, with a further 521 homes on site across various locations in North Lanarkshire.
CCG (Scotland) managing director, David Wylie, added: “Community Road is another great example of how North Lanarkshire Council and CCG are supporting communities across the region through housing-led regeneration. High in quality and energy performance thanks to our enhanced methods of build, the homes will deliver real, transformative change for the new residents and I am delighted to see that they have settled in so well.
“With over 300 affordable homes on-site, our partnership with North Lanarkshire Council is very much ongoing and we look forward to bringing more developments to completion over the course of this year.”
The £5.6 million development is being delivered by CCG (Scotland) and is supported by a contribution from the Scottish Government.
