New footbridge opens at Uddingston station

A replacement footbridge at Uddingston rail station has been opened to the public.

Colleagues from Scotland’s Railway met last week to conduct final inspections on the 75-tonne footbridge which was installed at the station in March. The old footbridge was removed on Saturday night.

The next phase of work is to upgrade the station’s power supply to support the two new lifts which are set to open to the public later this summer.

To enable these works, the road and car park on the Glasgow-bound platform 1 side will be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Signage has already been installed.

Once complete, the new structure will make it easier to use the station for those with mobility difficulties, and people travelling with bicycles, pushchairs or heavy luggage.
