New heads of learning and sustainability join Miller Homes

David Skelton and Jo Stott

Miller Homes has announced the appointment of two senior roles within the group.

David Skelton has joined the team as head of learning and development, and Jo Stott has assumed the role of group head of environmental sustainability.

Bringing over a decade’s worth of housebuilding knowledge to his new role, David is highly experienced at building in-house training programmes for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills. He has already begun looking at how to develop the appropriate programmes for all employees, as well as grow the future industry leaders at Miller Homes, by offering career support, skills development and recruitment.

Commenting on his new role, David said: “Joining Miller Homes is an exciting opportunity. The company has always recognised the value and importance of developing staff and promoting from within, and the team is very keen to engage with learning and development initiatives. My goal is to provide a framework and structure so that everyone in the business is aware of the options available to improve their skills, and how they can be accessed.

“I want to develop career paths, support new starters from the very beginning and look at how we can bring trainees into the business, helping them build a successful career in the homebuilding industry.”

The new group head of environmental sustainability, Jo Stott, has joined the Miller Homes team after a long history of working in the environmental sector. In previous roles, she worked on carbon reduction strategies, helped businesses to control their pollution and improve air quality, in addition to advising suppliers on how to maximise their usage of sustainable materials.

Discussing her new position, Jo said: “As a responsible homebuilder, Miller Homes understands the need to reduce its environmental impact. I am looking forward to playing a key role in driving forward our sustainability approach as we continue to roll out new initiatives, particularly focusing on our carbon reduction and waste strategies.”

Talking about the new appointments, Stewart Lynes, chief executive officer at Miller Homes, said: “We are delighted to have both David and Jo on board, both of whom bring vast experience to the business. These are key strategic roles as we further progress our people strategy and enhance our sustainability credentials in line with our purpose of ‘creating great places where people prosper’.

“David has already launched a business-wide learning and development survey to gain feedback from our employees and develop bespoke training for our team.

“I have no doubt that Jo will take the sustainability and environmental side of Miller Homes to the next level. It is clear she has a strong passion for this area of work and, as the world becomes increasingly conscious about the climate and the impact we’re all having on it, it is vital that we’re doing all we can as a business to help.”
