The developments are shortly to be handed over to charity Scottish Veterans Garden City Association (SVGCA) and will soon be occupied by veterans. Both projects are being delivered by the construction services team at Graham + Sibbald in partnership with Angus Council and the Highland Council.

The Carnoustie project is worth in excess of £500k and has built a total of five bespoke residential units providing essential affordable housing for disabled veterans in Scotland

The Inverness SVGCA project consists of four semi-detached properties and one detached house, all part of a larger residential development and represents a construction value of almost £300k.

In both areas the aim is to create ‘a community within a community’ providing informal support for disabled veterans whilst living fully integrated alongside other tenants.

Houses for Heroes Scotland is the appeal name of the Scottish Veterans Garden City Association, a registered charity founded in 1915, which is committed to providing reasonably priced rental housing for disabled veterans in Scotland. They have 614 homes in 74 locations throughout Scotland housing those who have served in the British Armed Forces, Merchant Navy, Police or Fire Brigade and have been partially or totally disabled.

David Ross, construction partner at Graham + Sibbald, said: “These latest developments are part of a larger scale project across Scotland with Houses for Heroes and I am delighted that we are at handover stage on two of the sites. We have also started construction on a number of properties in Lanarkshire which should be completed in the summer. Our extensive project management experience and commitment to quality of service has allowed us to offer SVGCA value for money without compromising on the quality of the finished properties.

Sites in Inverness and Carnoustie will be ready for occupation in June 2015.

Work also began in January on a Houses for Heroes project in Wishaw with a site in Motherwell commencing in March. These projects are scheduled to be completed by July 2015.
