The junction on the B8020 at Duntarvie will be formed by constructing a roundabout with four new slip roads, centred around the existing motorway bridge. It will be connected to the motorway with a new road from Winchburgh town centre to the new M9 junction.

Developers are currently working on Road Orders with Transport Scotland and hope to begin work soon.

Works were planned to commence in the summer, subject to approval, but the developers are unable to offer any more confirmation on time scales at this juncture.

The Winchburgh masterplan will bring 3,800 homes to the village, including 750 affordable options, with 450 of those for social rent.

As part of planning conditions, it was agreed that no more than 1,000 of the new homes can be occupied until the new M9 junction is complete.

A council spokesperson told the West Lothian Courier: “Detailed planning permission for the motorway junction was granted by the council earlier this month. It is for the lead developer to implement that consent and the council understands that negations are progressing with Transport Scotland on the necessary agreements.”

A spokesperson for Winchburgh Developments Ltd said: “Full planning consent for the new motorway junction has now been secured from West Lothian Council.

“The next stage of the process involves securing Made Road Orders from the Transport Secretary, and Transport Scotland are currently preparing the necessary reports required to enable this to progress.”

Transport Scotland propose Road and Traffic Orders that provide the statutory authority to improve and maintain Scotland’s trunk roads.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware Winchburgh Developments Ltd have secured planning permission from West Lothian Council. We are now going through the process of Made Road Orders for the project and will report back in due course.”

Executive councillor for development and transport, Cathy Muldoon, added: “The council welcomes the commitment to delivering the motorway junction which will open up additional economic development land at the junction and significantly improve connectivity to the area. Winchburgh and the surrounding communities are growing and with that comes jobs, economic growth and new homes.

“We are currently in the process of building several new schools in Winchburgh to meet the growing demand. We’re delighted that West Lothian continues to be an area that attracts investment and growth.”
