North Ayrshire Council has highlighted the impact of its work to provide new affordable homes after its cabinet approved its new five-year Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) for 2025-2030.

The council and its Registered Social Landlord partners are delivering new homes throughout the area. Council projects are currently underway in Beith, Kilbirnie, Largs, Ardrossan, and Irvine, whilst Cunninghame Housing Association recently completed new homes in Stevenston.

The housebuilding programme, which is supported by funding from the Scottish Government, is making a significant difference across North Ayrshire, and providing a catalyst for the regeneration of towns and communities.

The council has already delivered 897 new build homes, with a further 746 homes in the pipeline. This is in addition to the work being delivered to regenerate estates, improve existing homes and create housing specifically designed for older residents and tenants with additional support needs.

The council and its partners are also stepping up their buyback programmes to increase affordable housing stock.

The SHIP sets out the priorities for affordable housing investment in North Ayrshire over the next five years and outlines how the Council and its Registered Social Landlord partners will deliver these priorities.

Councillor Alan Hill, cabinet member for Islands and Communities, said: “Despite the financial challenges we are all facing, we are continuing to invest
in our council homes across North Ayrshire to ensure families can enjoy affordable, high quality and comfortable homes.

“Not only are we continuing to deliver new houses to help us achieve our target of more than 1,600 new homes but we are also committing to bring more former council homes back into council ownership through our buyback programme.

Eight new council housing developments are currently underway which will deliver 248 new homes across North Ayrshire. This includes the council’s largest housing development to date at the site of the former maternity unit at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine, where 202 new homes will be built.
