New temporary platform access opens at Anniesland station
Passenger access at Anniesland station will temporarily change as work to install new street-level lifts continues.
A new temporary route into platform 2 was opened on Thursday 25 January to make space for the construction of the new lifts as part of the ‘Access for All’ programme.
Direct access to the platform is now via Herschell Street from the adjacent church car park, using a temporary stairway and passengers will continue to use the footbridge to cross between platforms.
The original stairs to platform 2 are closed temporarily as engineers prepare for excavation and piling work to support the installation of the lift towers.
At platforms 1 and 3, the stairs have been closed since October, with both existing stairways to be reopened to passengers when the project is completed later this year.
When complete, it will be easier for those with limited mobility or travelling with children, luggage or cycles to access the platforms.
Amanda Naughton, scheme project manager for Scotland’s Railway, said: “Space is limited in and around Anniesland station so we need to make some temporary changes to how people access the platforms. This will allow us to continue construction while keeping the station open.
“We appreciate the patience of passengers and the surrounding community as we continue to deliver these important access improvements at the station.”
