New West Edinburgh retirement living project launched
Juniper Residential and Yeoman McAllister Architects have joined forces to build a retirement living development at Barnton Avenue West, Edinburgh.
About this development:
- Authority:Edinburgh City
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:Yeoman McAllister Architects (architect), Juniper Residential (developer), Keith Woods Landscape Design (landscape designer)
Consisting of 44 apartments and four houses earmarked exclusively for the over-55 market, Barnton House will provide a range of communal facilities and landscaped grounds by Keith Woods Landscape Design overlooking Royal Burgess Golf Course.
Spanning a two-hectare site the accommodation will be spread across three separate buildings surrounded by established woodland.
Faced in a combination of white render, stone-coloured brick and dark grey cladding the main apartment block will top out at three-storeys, including accommodation within the roof space, Urban Realm reports.
Seeking approval from planners, the architects wrote: “The area is appropriate for residential development and in a sustainable location close to surrounding local amenities and public transport. The site has also been subject to flooding and drainage issues which will be resolved as part of the current proposal.”
The latest proposal supersedes a 2018 sheltered housing application for 48 homes which will now be withdrawn.
