North Ayrshire solar project shortlisted for UK roofing award

A project to help combat fuel poverty through solar power has been shortlisted as a finalist for the UK Roofing Awards 2025.

North Ayrshire Council appointed Marley to work on a five-year re-roofing project to help the council achieve its carbon-neutral programme.

The local authority is looking to improve household energy efficiency across its housing stock to combat the increasing risk of families falling into fuel poverty.

Marley Contract Services (part of the Marley group) has been the incumbent roofing contractor with the council for the last 20 years. Its SolarTiles aim to generate in the region of 3kW power from each roof.

The project has been shortlisted in the Solar Roofing category of the UK Roofing Awards alongside Bronllys Community Hospital – Cambrian Roofing Ltd, UCLan School of Veterinary Medicine – Metclad Contracts Ltd and NT2 – EE Tyneside – John Flowers (Flat and Industrial Roofing) Ltd.

Following a record number of entries, the judges have announced finalists over 16 categories across a broad range of roofing and cladding disciplines.

The Roofing Awards will be taking place on Friday 9 May 2025 at the Intercontinental London—The O2.

The Industry Choice Award, sponsored by Radmat Building Products, will allow the industry to have its say on their favourite project. Voting is now open.

On top of the winners of each category and the Industry Choice Award being crowned, one winning project will also gain the ultimate accolade of ‘Project of the Year’.

James Talman, NFRC CEO, said: “With a record number of entries this year, the judges had their work cut out to review and score such a fabulous selection.

“All entrants should be commended for taking the time to enter the awards in celebration of the effort and achievements of their teams, demonstrating their fantastic workmanship, project management, and problem-solving. We are looking forward to the ceremony on 9 May and wish all entrants the best of luck.

“As always, a heartfelt thank you goes out to all those who are helping make this year’s awards possible, particularly the UK Roofing Awards sponsors: Radmat Building Products (headline sponsor), Recticel Insulation (drinks reception and afterparty sponsor), Bauder, BMI UK & Ireland, Carlisle Construction Materials, CUPA PIZARRAS, Euroclad Group, Lead Sheet Training Academy, Marley, Mastic Asphalt Council, Sandtoft, SIG Roofing, and Sika.”
