North Lanarkshire Council has published details of a proposed housing development in Wishaw.

The council is now seeking planning permission for nine flats to be built on the site of Wishaw Methodist Church in Caledonian Road.

Last year, the local authority’s housing and regeneration committee approved the inclusion of the site as part of its drive to provide 5,000 new homes by 2035.

In addition to obtaining homes private developers or purchasing on the open market, the council has identified 24 sites within its boundaries as potential locations for new housing for tenants and intends to complete work on this site by October.

Other developments due to for completion in October 2022 are 19 homes at Berwick Street in Coatbridge, 13 at Graham Street in Wishaw, and 40 at Gibb Street in Chapelhall.

The council has hired a design team for this housing programme which includes Coltart Earley Architecture and Aecom Engineering, who are responsible for producing a site layout and applying for statutory consents such as planning permission and approval from Scottish Water.

With regard to the Caledonian Road development, a planning decision is expected to be made by August 16.
