Ogilvie starts work on £33m Glasgow student residence

Yoker student hallsOgilvie Construction has broken ground on a £33 million project to build a student residence in Yorkhill, Glasgow, for developers Land Synergy.

Built on the site of former warehousing at Kelvinhaugh Street, the project will create a 607 bedroom building consisting of three separate blocks of between 5 and 9 storeys constructed above a semi basement parking space.

One block will be created using traditional steel and lightweight steel framing, with the other two blocks built using a modular container system pre-fabricated and fully fitted out off site, for assembly on site.

The building is due for completion ahead of the new student intake in the autumn of 2017.

Donald MacDonald, managing director, Ogilvie Construction, said: “We are proud to be involved in such an innovative project in the city. The building will provide a uniquely modern environment for students in Glasgow, constructed to the highest standard and incorporating the latest sustainable materials and design.”
