Partnership to identify opportunities for regeneration and investment on North Ayrshire coast

The two are joining forces to identify opportunities for regeneration and investment in the area.

A formal Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the two organisations, marking the beginning of a long-term partnership.

The organisations share a vision to unlock the potential of North Ayrshire’s unique marine and coastal resources, helping to stimulate the social, economic and environmental regeneration of coastal and other communities.

Alex Gallagher, North Ayrshire Council’s cabinet member for post-COVID renewal, said: “Just last month, North Ayrshire Council launched its Community Wealth Building strategy, which will see us work in partnership with communities and businesses to build a strong local economy which supports fair work, encourages local spend and uses the land and property we own for the common good.

“This landmark partnership will go hand-in-hand with those aspirations, developing plans for the good of North Ayrshire and its residents.

“North Ayrshire is famed for its stunning coastline and marine resources - and we can now begin work in partnership on plans which will allow these assets to flourish and benefit our coastal communities and economy.”

Amanda Bryan, Crown Estate Scotland chair, added: “Today marks the start of our joint endeavour with North Ayrshire Council to deliver wide-ranging sustainable economic benefit in the region. Crown Estate Scotland has committed to investing in coastal development and helping business and communities to thrive throughout Scotland over the coming years.

“Through this collaboration we will put the time and resources into helping identify opportunities that make the most of those resources, delivering real benefit to North Ayrshire’s communities and local economy.”

The agreement lays out how both organisations will work together to identify, develop and ultimately realise socially, environmentally and economically regenerative projects associated with North Ayrshire’s coastal communities. This approach to collaboration provides the basis for attracting both public and private investment in projects across both the mainland and islands of Cumbrae and Arran.

The partnership will also tie in with the ‘Blue Economy’ aspirations of both Crown Estate Scotland and North Ayrshire Council, helping to encourage established and emerging sectors linked to the coastal and water economy.

With the partnership agreement signed, both parties will now work together to identify and explore investment opportunities for Crown Estate Scotland and other suitable partners.

Particular focus will be given to projects that maximise wider value, delivering sustainable and inclusive growth, promoting Community Wealth Building and maximising the impact of Ayrshire Growth Deal investment alongside other major capital investment programmes.
