PDA saves members £54,600 on legal and business support fees
A partnership deal between the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) and specialist insurance, tax and legal firm Markel is saving PDA members around £54,600 a year, newly released figures have shown.
Markel provides free access to their business hub and legal helpline, offering 24-hour support to PDA members.
Downloads from the business hub, including guidance documents on health and safety, employment law and contract templates, would cost an estimated £350 each if created by a high street legal firm, saving PDA members £54,600 in fees during 2023.
The legal helpline saw a jump in calls in the second half of 2023, with members seeking advice on consumer issues, property and probate. The cost for advice on these topics can be around £200 an hour, while the Markel helpline is included in membership benefits.
As part of the partnership arrangement, PDA members are able to benefit from Markel’s insurance cover, which can be accessed if a customer dispute cannot be resolved by the PDA’s impartial mediation and arbitration service.
Chief executive of the PDA, Neil Ogilvie, said: “We always recommend PDA members come to us before seeking advice from a local solicitor. The business hub is easy to navigate and provides PDA members with documents that could otherwise cost them hundreds of pounds.
“For many members, simply paying the yearly membership fee is cheaper than having one legal document produced by a high street legal firm.
“It’s also important to note that the included legal advice line is available 24/7 and not only provides business support on subjects such as employment issues and commercial contracts but also on issues such as Property, Health & Safety, Tax and VAT.”
He concluded: “With such huge savings to be made on advice and support for both your business and personal life, why choose anyone else?”
