Persimmon donates £1,000 to Lesmahagow Highland Games

Homebuilder Persimmon West Scotland has announced the Lesmahagow Highland Games as one of their Community Champions, donating £1,000 which will help organisers purchase new gazebos.

The Lesmahagow Highland Games has been an annual event in the area since 1960 and this year’s event is set to draw crowds from near and far.

A variety of competitions will take place on the day, from wrestling to highland dancing, with new events including boxing being added for the first-time.

The group received the £1,000 donation through Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative, which supports charities and good causes in the areas the company operates in. The programme has seen more than £360,000 donated across Scotland in the last five years.

Chris Logan, managing director of Persimmon West Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to support the Lesmahagow Highland Games with the purchase of new gazebos for this year’s event.

“Our Community Champions initiative is aimed at supporting local charities and groups that make a real difference in their community and the organisers of the Highland Games do a great job of creating an event that local people can be proud of.”

David Abercrombie, Lesmahagow Highland Games chairman, added: “Lesmahagow now has the only Highland Games in the whole of Lanarkshire, and through the award of donations such as this, we really are able to bring more events and attractions than ever before.

“We’d really like to thank Persimmon Homes for their generosity and would like to think we can work together in the future too.”
