The development by Persimmon West Scotland will see the much-needed new homes built at Wellburn Farm, on land allocated for housing in South Lanarkshire Council’s local development plan.

The proposals include a variety of high-quality new homes, ranging from two-bedroom terraces to four-bedroom detached houses. They have been specifically designed to meet the needs of the local housing market and will come with solar panels as well as electric car charging points to support new homeowners to cut carbon and lower household bills.

New play parks and areas of open public space will be key features of the development. Other significant local benefits include funding for upgrades to McKirdy Park, a new roundabout and traffic calming measures on Strathaven Road and a landscaped entrance to the village.

The development will also generate a contribution of around £575,000 for local schools and nursery provision, with a further £570,000 to support affordable housing in South Lanarkshire.

It is estimated that the development will create around 40 local jobs each year in the construction sector, with a further 44 in services and other local firms.
