The Garthamlock and Craigend Allotments Association was established in August 2022 with the purpose of providing an urban space designated for people living in the surrounding area to grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

The proposed allotment site will sit alongside the current Community Garden, using additional land which is currently unused. The site will also serve as an educational resource for local community groups, schools and nurseries to visit and learn about where our food comes from and how it can be grown sustainably.

The funding is being delivered through Persimmon’s Community Champions programme, which sees up to £64,000 donated to good causes across the UK every month. It will be used for resources, including fencing, soil, seeds, and plants.

Jillian Reilly, Garthamlock and Craigend Allotments Association chairperson, said: “We are thankful to Persimmon West Scotland for providing Garthamlock and Craigend Allotments Association with much needed funding and for supporting our vision.

“This generous donation will help create a much-desired outdoor space within the local area to encourage the pursuit of gardening as a healthy recreation, support sustainability and improve the health and wellbeing of many.”
