Persimmon marks 50 years by donating 1,550 trees in celebration of Queen’s life
Persimmon Homes is marking its 50th anniversary by donating 1,550 trees to the Queen’s Green Canopy Project, helping to celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
This represents a donation of 50 trees for each of the company’s operating businesses – including its East, North and West Scotland operations – and its head office, demonstrating the housebuilder’s commitment to enhancing the biodiversity of its sites across the country.
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a project created to help celebrate the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The aim of the project is to create a living legacy with more than a million trees planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation. Since the Queen’s passing, the project will serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country.
Fran Leedham, Persimmon’s Group sustainability director, said: “I’m proud that in our 50th year we’re able to celebrate the remarkable life of Queen Elizabeth II, while making a positive contribution to the environment and communities in which we operate.
“As a business, we are passionate about building sustainable communities. Enhancing the biodiversity of our sites is an important part of our sustainability strategy – in 2021 we planted ten trees for every home we built.
“As a responsible homebuilder, we set ourselves stretching sustainability targets for our business, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting way to mark the important milestone of 50 years of Persimmon than to honour The Queen.”
