Persimmon Homes submits plans to build homes at former Dundee whisky bottling plant

New plans have been submitted by Persimmon Homes to build 71 new homes as part of a development on the former Stewart’s Cream of Barlet bottling plant on the Kingsway.

Persimmon has attempted to develop the land at the Kingsway site for many years. Its newest application follows Dundee councillors’ agreed to lift a restriction on the site that blocked a previous attempt to build 83 homes on the site.

The last plan had been recommended for refusal by Dundee city planning chiefs because the area had been set aside for industrial use due to its closeness to the Port of Dundee.

However, a Scottish Government report recommended that the restriction on the building be lifted after the planning application was rejected by councillors.

A developer statement said: “Planning permission is being sought for 71 dwelling houses including access, infrastructure, drainage, sustainable urban drainage systems, landscaping and open space on land at the former Stewart House, Kingsway East, Dundee.

“This site is brownfield in status and its redevelopment will improve the tenure mix in an area where the existing choice in the supply of private market homes is limited. The proposal will make a positive contribution to the regeneration objectives of the area.”

The developer stated that the development will produce “much needed” family housing for Dundee.
