Planning consent granted for next phase of Western Harbour
Architecture practice 7N has been granted detailed planning consent for Plot P2 of its Western Harbour masterplan on behalf of Forth Ports.
About this development:
- Authority:Edinburgh City
- Type:Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, Education
- Applications:
- Team:7N Architects (architect), Rankin Fraser Landscape Architects (landscape architect)
Designed in collaboration with Rankin Fraser Landscape Architects, the proposals will deliver 205 homes focussed around a communal courtyard garden that includes a shared amenity space for home working and entertaining.
A street of shops and cafes will address Sandpiper Drive at ground floor, establishing a new neighbourhood centre for the community.
The architects stated: “The design has been developed around the masterplan principles of streets and spaces, rather than individual plots, with each street having its own character in order to cultivate variety, identity and legibility.
“With the arrival of the tram extension to Western Harbour in 2023, the project is founded on the principle of active travel and shared mobility with the creation of a new segregated cycle lane that will extend into future phases of the masterplan.”
To be delivered in collaboration with Forth Ports and Rettie and Co, the full development will see 938 new homes within a mixed-use neighbourhood which will include shops, commercial space, a health centre, a new primary school which is being brought forward separately by the City of Edinburgh Council, and one of the largest new parks in the city for over a hundred years.
