Plans submitted for 39 council flats in Ayr
Plans have been submitted to convert a derelict warehouse into 39 council flats in Ayr.
Developer Ashleigh has submitted a planning application in principle to build the three-storey block at the former Jewson depot.
The abandoned industrial site is located on the corner of Green Street and North Harbour Street near the river.
South Ayrshire Council said it is interested in taking the site forward for affordable housing.
In an email submitted alongside the plans, the council said: “Demand for one and two-bedroom flats within close proximity to the town centre is high.
“With the ever increasing older population within South Ayrshire Council, the location of this site would be very popular with tenants.”
Plans have revealed that there is to be 13 flats on each floor of the three storey block with 33 parking spaces to accompany it.
There will be 28 one bedroom flats and 11 two bedrooms, The Ayrshire Post reports.
A communal garden forms part of the proposal’s streetscape.
