Plans submitted for second phase of homes at Athletes’ Village
The developers of the multi award winning Athletes’ Village have submitted a detailed planning application to build a further 125 new homes on the Dalmarnock site.
As a result of the overwhelming success of the first sales release – where all of the 300 private homes were sold in record time – City Legacy has submitted plans to Glasgow City Council for a further 125, two and three bedroom terraced houses to be built at the riverside location by the Glasgow based consortium.
If the planning permission is approved it is anticipated that work could begin later in the year.
The Athletes’ Village provided accommodation for 6,500 athletes and officials during the Commonwealth Games, before being converted to 700 homes - 400 for social rental and 300 for private sale. The Village has been a huge success story, with private homes selling out in early 2016, almost two years ahead of schedule.
The Athletes’ Village lies at the heart of a real community, with a 120-bed care home, plans for a new primary and nursery school, and direct access to the Cuningar Loop, a new £5.7m, 15 hectare riverside woodland park provided by Legacy 2014 funding. It is also within minutes of Dalmarnock train station and the Dalmarnock Legacy Hub - a centre for the local community with a GP surgery, children’s nursery, chemist and shop.
Speaking on behalf of City Legacy, Calum Murray, managing director of CCG Homes and director of City Legacy, said: “It’s been a fantastic few years for all of us involved in this unique project. The interest in The Village before, during and after the Commonwealth games has been overwhelming and that’s why we’ve taken to decision to build more homes on the site.
“It’s a great location and the quality of homes is excellent – the multiple awards that we have secured over the past two years are testament to that. Hundreds of families now call The Village their home and with this new planning application for a further 125 homes, we hope to give many more families this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
