Preferred bidder’s exclusivity deal at Stranraer waterfront extended
An “exclusivity deal” with the preferred bidder to take forward a potential £50 million waterfront investment plan in Stranraer has been extended.
Dumfries and Galloway Council and Stena Line entered into a partnership with the McKinney Group last year.
The Northern Irish firm has agreed to bring forward detailed proposals for the regeneration of the 17 acre East Pier, including options for new retail, leisure and housing developments.
The local authority has also given the green light for a wider £3.5m regeneration of Stranraer’s conservation area using a mix of public and private finance.
It will be used to refurbish “key buildings”, address empty or derelict property, and offer improvement grants.
The extension of the exclusivity deal will allow further time to look at ways to “create new growth opportunities for Stranraer”.
It means the council will not talk to other potential developers about regenerating the area.
