Primary school project 'highlight's McTaggart community improvement DNA'

McTaggart Construction has praised a community benefits initiative at Hampden Primary School that it said highlights the company’s dedication to improving lives and enriching communities.

At a recent industry event, McTaggart staff were moved by the dedication of the teaching staff at Hampden Primary School, so when the school sought volunteers for essential refurbishment work, the team stepped forward despite having no active building projects in the area.

Without any obligation on their part, a dedicated team from across McTaggart Construction generously volunteered their own time to work at the school for children with severe disabilities. Their efforts included repairing walls and floors, removing partitions, fully painting a room and fixing damages to walls – creating a safe environment for the children to play.

Three volunteer decorators devoted a full week to the project, while a joiner contributed two days of work.

For McTaggart, the initiative exemplifies its broader commitment to supporting the entire Glasgow community which benefits from the specialist services provided at Hampden Primary School.

Head teacher Virginia Smith said: “At Hampden School we are so thrilled with the work completed by McTaggart Construction. The difference that they have made to the space is almost unbelievable - a complete transformation from a dark and dingy space to a light, bright and open space.

“Their attention to detail went above and beyond and they were so helpful to us during the process.

“The children are loving the new space. They have so much more space to play in and the lovely bright and fresh décor makes the room a pleasure to be in.

“We will never forget their generosity and are so grateful to the team who helped us.”

Understanding the importance of supporting marginalised groups as part of its community commitment, McTaggart Construction became the first homebuilder in Scotland to sign up to The Buy Social Pledge. This initiative, overseen by Scottish Enterprise Scotland aims to strengthen opportunities for social and supported enterprises within the country’s supply chain.

McTaggart Construction invested more than £462,000 in social enterprise last year, and currently has commitments for orders with RSBI Kitchens, Community Wood Recycling and Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company in Erskine which helps veterans and others with disabilities or from a disadvantage.
