Prime Minister David Cameron has agreed to work with the Scottish Government to deliver funding for a Tay Cities Deal.

The proposed Tay Cities Deal could deliver up to £400 million investment for Dundee, Angus, North East Fife, and Perth & Kinross, offering a significant economic boost for the people living in these areas.

Funding would be used for infrastructure projects to benefit the local economy, including improving the transport network and creating jobs.

At Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday, Dundee West MP Chris Law asked the Prime Minister to commit to working with Holyrood to deliver funding for the initiative.

The Scottish Government has already indicated strong support to date for those Scottish regions currently developing bids. Dundee City Council and its partner authorities, Perth & Kinross, Angus, and Fife Councils are currently putting together a regional bid based around Dundee and Perth.

City Deals have already been agreed for Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness with another in the pipeline for Edinburgh.

Chris Law MP said he welcomed the commitment the Prime Minister has now made to supporting the Tay Cities Deal and promoting innovation and growth within Dundee.

He added: “A City Deal for Dundee would support business growth and opportunity in areas such as Tourism, Food and Drink, Financial and Business Services, Creative Industries and Life Sciences and help promote Scotland on the international stage to boost our trade, investment and networks.”
