Project team appointed for Cumnock Bus Station revamp
The £750,000 refurbishment of Cumnock Bus Station will soon be under way following the appointment of the project team by East Ayrshire Council.
Funded by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, the project will be undertaken by Clark Contracts and has been overseen by Ayrshire Roads Alliance in conjunction with the council and Wylie Shanks Architects.
The improvements were designed following a feasibility study and public consultation carried out in November 2018. They include a redesign of the new terminal building in place of the existing shelters which was amended to take into account public concerns about a lack of protection from the weather.
With new paving materials and enhanced landscaping, the Tanyard area will be more attractive and accessible to those with mobility issues.
Councillor Jim Roberts, cabinet member for economy and infrastructure at East Ayrshire Council, said: “We’ll all be very happy to see Cumnock Bus Station’s new makeover. It will form a fittingly modern gateway to the town square and beyond and is in keeping with all the regeneration and new development which has brought so many great improvements to the townscape in recent years.
“One big benefit will be the improvement in shelter, accessibility and the installation of real time technology and dedicated, monitored CCTV which will be monitored 24/7. It means passengers can be assured of travelling in comfort and safety.”
The contract will last 16 weeks and should be complete by early spring 2020.
