Proposals lodged for 180 homes on Glasgow estate
Sanctuary Scotland has submitted revised plans to build affordable homes on the site of the former Craigbank housing estate in Nitshill, Glasgow.
To be delivered by CCG and Mast Architects, the development will see the construction of 180 homes comprising a mix of affordable and private accommodation ranging from one bed flats through to four bedroom houses.
A total of 70 units, compromising of two storey, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom houses consisting of fourteen semi-detached blocks and thirteen terraces, are designated for sale by the contractor CCG
The remaining 110 units allocated as affordable housing comprise of single and two storey, sixteen semi-detached blocks, twenty terraces and a 2 storey flatted block containing wheelchair accessible flats. These will be managed through Sanctuary Scotland.
Of the 110 affordable housing units, 10 are to be delivered under a pilot scheme designed with Glasgow City Council.
The intention of this pilot scheme is to help establish a comparison between different house types and construction approaches with a view to informing the future benchmark standards for affordable housing in Glasgow. The approach will consider different construction types, external targets and certifications, and include post-occupancy measurement and user feedback to confirm the most appropriate solution for future housing.
Physical factors such as building envelope and heating/ ventilation system performance, and human factors such as air quality and running costs will be included. A comparison will then be drawn between each of the types proposed, and cost, programme and other factors will be recorded separately for each type.
The development, which will also include open space and children’s play areas, supersedes an earlier application for 143 affordable homes on the same site.
