Pupils given crash course in construction during World of Work Week

Pupils at St Patrick’s Primary School in Denny enjoyed a hands-on introduction to housebuilding, thanks to a special visit from Persimmon Homes East Scotland.
As part of World of Work Week, Lisa Riley, head of customer care at Persimmon East Scotland, delivered a ‘toolbox talk’ to help pupils learn about construction and staying safe around building sites. Lisa, whose daughter attends the school, led a presentation on how houses are built and the many careers involved in the industry.
The visit follows Persimmon’s recent announcement that it will deliver 568 new homes in the village – a major development set to bring new investment and housing to the local area.
To make the experience even more memorable, every pupil received a matching Persimmon hard hat and high-vis vest, along with a copy of Cones and Building Homes – a children’s book designed to promote health and safety near construction sites.
Lisa Riley, head of customer care at Persimmon East Scotland, said: “It was such a joy to visit St Patrick’s and share more about what we do in a way that was fun and age-appropriate. The children were brilliant – full of curiosity and great questions.
“As a parent myself, I know how important it is to help young people understand how to stay safe near building sites, especially as we begin work on 568 new homes right here in the village.”
