Renewable firm to open Glasgow office and create 20 jobs

A UK renewable energy company has unveiled major expansion plans into Scotland, which will see it open an office in Glasgow and create up to 20 highly skilled jobs over the next 12 months.

Engenera Renewables Group, based in the North East of England, works as a decarbonisation partner with large companies looking to reduce their carbon emissions and operate using cleaner, greener – and often cheaper – energy.

The business has worked with the likes of Nissan, Walker Filtration, Eddie Stobart and Faerch Group to develop long-term decarbonisation plans leveraging a range of green technologies that can also slash bills and generate revenues (usually with no upfront costs). It has access to a £100 million green fund that means it can fund installations at no cost to the client.

In Scotland, the company has already worked with a number of private companies including Golden Casket, the confectionery specialist based in Greenock on the Firth of Clyde, which operates from a former Royal Naval Torpedo Factory – a listed building.

Engenera worked closely with Inverclyde Council and Historic Environment Scotland to complete a solar installation that satisfied the energy needs of Golden Casket while being unintrusive and in keeping with the historic nature of the building.

Now, Engenera is close to agreeing a number of multifaceted, long-term deals with several public sector bodies in Scotland including a number of social housing associations that would help them set and reach decarbonisation goals, while also generating their own green energy.

The Glasgow office will open in August 2021, with the company starting to recruit for the roles to drive its push into Scotland in the autumn.

New government targets designed to reduce carbon emissions by 78% (compared to 1990 levels) by 2035 – a 15-year reduction on the previous target of 2050 – mean growing incentives for businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and invest in renewable energy projects using technology that can also often cut their own bills and even provide a long-term income stream.

Engenera recently broadened its offering to encompass a wider range of renewable energy solutions, pivoting to become a decarbonisation partner for businesses seeking a holistic solution to better manage all their energy needs and help them align with government targets.

The business has invested heavily in its technical skills and expertise. It now works closely with clients on a range of renewable technologies including commercial solar PV and battery storage; air and ground source heat pumps; combined heat and power; electric vehicle charging points; and LED lighting.

Engenera is also one of the few renewable energy companies in the UK able to offer renewable energy installations at no capital outlay to customers able to sign power purchase agreements (PPAs). This is because it can access a £100m green bond programme that is financed by multiple PPAs arranged by Engenera.

Lloyd Lawson, chief strategy officer, Engenera, said: “This is a very exciting time for Engenera. For us, as we start to expand our physical presence, launching in Scotland was a natural move. As a proud Scot myself, I am delighted to be able to open this office in Glasgow and it will be exciting to start to hire some fantastic talent and make a real difference to the economy in Scotland – both through job creation and by helping companies embrace green energy.”

Bryan Glendenning, CEO, Engenera, added: “On the back of increasingly ambitious government targets, companies are being offered more and more incentives to embrace green energy and reduce their carbon footprint. With the funding we also have in place, via our £100m green bond programme, we are in an almost unique position in that we can help companies achieve their aims by using a range of technologies at no upfront cost.”
