Erskine Youth Football Club provides around 250 children from the age of five with the opportunity to play football in a safe, structured environment, thanks to the commitment of more than 60 voluntary coaches.

And the squad – which currently trains at Park Mains High School – has been given a boost, thanks to a £1,000 donation from CALA Homes’ annual community bursary scheme.

The funding has allowed the coaches to provide the boys and girls from all age groups with new training equipment, and will also go towards funding travel to a future tournament.

Scott Maclachlan, coach at Erskine Youth Football Club, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to CALA Homes (West) for the generous donation. Our voluntary coaches work hard to train and develop our players in the best way possible, so to be able to provide updated equipment is a welcome boost for them as well as the kids who put their all into their training sessions.

“With help to fund the new equipment and travel to a tournament, we can focus on our long-term goal of building our own 3G pitch with revamped changing facilities at Barwood Park in Erskine.”

As part of its 2019 Community Bursary, CALA Homes (West) donated a total of £5,000 to groups across Renfrewshire, including Rashielea Primary School Parent Council in Erskine, Rays of Hope cancer support service in Elderslie, Kairos Women’s Café in Johnstone, Sunshine Recovery Café in Paisley and Erskine Music and Media Studio as well as Erskine Youth Football Club.
