Renovation set to begin on listed Victorian buildings at Bangour Village
The renovation of three historic buildings at the landmark redevelopment of Bangour Village is set to begin after West Lothian Council granted planning permission.
As owners and master planners, Ambassador Group will oversee specialised work to preserve and integrate these historic structures into the new development of 998 homes.
The iconic project will include energy-efficient homes, a new primary school, and a community retail hub, all set among 215 acres of mature woodland.
Bangour Village’s next chapter will see the development of a new, environmentally conscious neighbourhood complete with a district heating system to support a greener way of life. There will be a variety of housing options, including detached and semi-detached house types as well as townhouses, and 20% of the site will be dedicated to affordable housing.
The three historic buildings are the original hospital wards. Over the next year, renovation work will include work by specialist stone consultants to repair existing external walls, the installation of high-quality sash and case windows, and the use of red clay tiles and grey slates to replicate the appearance of the original roofs.
Throughout the project’s anticipated lifespan of ten years, Ambassador Group intends to invest a total of £150 million in community benefits and infrastructure. These investments will include building a new primary school, which will use a portion of the site’s original grade-A-listed recreation hall.
Gordon Coster, managing director of Ambassador Group’s Developments Division, said: “It is an honour for Ambassador Group to be in the position to bring these historic buildings back to life at this much-loved location. Our commitment to revitalising Bangour Village Estate reflects our dedication to fostering a sustainable future while preserving the cultural heritage of Bangour. Once complete, Bangour Village Estate will serve as an exemplar for sustainable modern living.”
With planning permission for the overall master plan already granted, initial infrastructure and groundworks have begun. Detailed planning for each phase continues, with the first homes expected to be available for sale in summer 2023.
