The news comes days after 17 Edinburgh schools were closed because of safety fears.

ABC Schools, which is responsible for the maintenance of the region’s schools, is carrying out repairs on the Rothesay Joint Campus and Oban Joint Primary Campus.

The works are due to be completed before the schools return from the Easter break on Monday.

Both schools were built by Barr Construction, which has since merged with McLaughlin & Harvey.

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council said: “Two of our schools, following routine inspection, have been confirmed safe for use but in need of repair to some sections of the buildings.

“Repairs in Rothesay Joint Campus are scheduled to be completed before the school returns from its Easter break on Monday 18th April.

“ABC Schools, who provide these schools to the council and are responsible for the maintenance and safety of the properties, are also progressing works in Oban Joint Primary Campus. If this cannot be completed by Monday, we have contingency plans in place to ensure that the schools can re-open safely and for the education of our pupils to continue. Further works will be carried out over the summer. We will provide parents with a further update on Monday.

“Safety is obviously a priority in our schools. We have instructed ABC Schools to arrange structural surveys in our other three public/private financed schools (Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh, Dunoon Grammar and Lochgilphead Joint Campus) which were built by other contractors.”
