Riverside housing development gets underway in Ayr
Work has started to build 75 new homes in the heart of Ayr.
The South Ayrshire Council project will see affordable flats built at Riverside Place in the town on land which was previously the site of two tower blocks.
Ashleigh Scotland Ltd, which was appointed by hub South West Scotland will build 43, one-bedroom properties and 32, two-bedroom properties at the site; five of the homes will be fully accessible for wheelchair users.
The project, which will cost around £17.2 million including a £6.7m contribution from the Scottish Government, is set to be completed in May 2025.
Councillor Martin Kilbride, buildings, housing and environment portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “It’s fantastic that works are underway at this exciting development. Another 75 affordable homes is great news for Ayr and underlines our commitment to build energy efficient and affordable properties which meet the needs of tenants.
“The development will be carried out over five phases. We’re still exploring options for the last remaining tower block, but the plan was always to push on with these much-needed homes in the meantime.”
