RJ McLeod brings easter joy to Shawfair and Danderhall community

Residents of Shawfair and Danderhall had a joyous Easter Sunday thanks to the generosity of RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd.

The company’s donation made it possible for the local community to organise an Easter Egg Hunt & Outdoor Crafts event at Carbon Tower Square. Members of Newton Parish Church also helped with the event, which attracted over 50 children and their families.

The children had a great time solving an Easter themed crossword and word puzzle hidden on eggs in Millerhill Park to find their Easter eggs. Meanwhile, the younger children searched for 12 Easter themed stamps around Carbon Tower Square to complete their Easter Bingo Sheet and win their eggs.

To keep the children entertained and provide them with a meaningful activity, they were also able to decorate several biodegradable plant pots and fill them with peat-free compost and Scottish wildflower seeds. The plants will be transplanted into the big park or other unplanted local areas to attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators in the summer and in years to come..

Besides the Easter event, RJ McLeod also contributed to the local Storehouse foodbank, which provides food and household items to Midlothian families in need. The foodbank is referral-based and family-orientated, serving those who are identified by health/social workers, police and head teachers. Providing food parcels can be a lifeline to families who have no other support in these difficult times. RJ McLeod’s donation will help the foodbank continue carrying out its invaluable work in the community.

RJ McLeod tarred up to basecourse the final section of road to complete the town centre loop at Shawfair at the end of March – a significant milestone in the construction of Scotland’s best connected new town.

Christina McKitrick, CSR manager, RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to assist with spreading some Easter joy in the local community.

Erika Pryde, Newton Parish Church, added: “The donation by RJ McLeod was wonderful to receive and enabled us to provide more Easter Eggs, than we had initially planned, and we were able to provide refreshments for children and adults enabling them to meet neighbours and make new friends– we had a great day of events and all the kids were delighted with their Easter Eggs “
