Robertson hires its 2,000th employee
Robertson Group has made its 2,000th hire in the same year the company is celebrating 50 years in business.
The Stirling based infrastructure firm has appointed Harpal Panesar as a quantity surveyor in the firm’s Civil Engineering division.
Robertson Civil Engineering is one of 21 companies operating within the Robertson Group and directly employs 77 people across a mix of disciplines.
Speaking of her appointment Harpal said: “I had been watching Robertson for a while because they have been working on some major projects, so when the position came up to work with them in Stirling, I jumped at the chance.
“I already feel like an important part of the team because I’ve been put straight onto two of the company’s high profile jobs in Edinburgh.
“My day to day role sees me focus on the commercial aspects of projects to make sure we’re on budget throughout the duration of the projects. Robertson Group has grown into one of the most sustainable businesses within the infrastructure sector. I believe its success is down to its people. I can collaborate with and learn from many of them and that is a very exciting prospect.”
Educated at the University of Kingston, Harpal holds a degree in product design and an MSC in quantity surveying. She has worked in the south of England and up until recently was working on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, where she worked for one of the joint venture contractors.
Harpal is keen to enhance her career with Robertson and hopes to eventually work her way up within the business.
Bill Robertson, CEO and executive chairman of the Robertson Group, said: “We’ve had a great deal to celebrate this year already with it being our 50th year in business not to mention our record breaking financial results. To be able to say that we’ve made our 2,000th hire in 2016 makes me very proud indeed.
“Harpal has already asserted herself in the firm and is considered an important part of the civil engineering team. I’m looking forward to seeing her career develop with us.”
Meanwhile, Robertson Civil Engineering has recently completed work on a new road and roundabout as part of the construction of a new development at Montgomerie Park in Irvine.
The £1.4 million project also saw the company build a 10,000m³ drainage pond which will receive all storm water at the site.
Tony Fry, managing director, Robertson Civil Engineering, said: “Work on the transport infrastructure at Montgomerie Park has been a major project which will bring tremendous benefits for local residents.
“Construction took place on the existing live carriageway so traffic management was an important consideration throughout the build.
“The roundabout and road, combined with the new drainage pond, will play a key role in ensuring Montgomerie Park is a modern, dynamic location which residents can enjoy for many years to come.”
Councillor Alex Gallagher, cabinet member for economies, added: “The completion of the roundabout and installation of drainage infrastructure opens up an exciting new residential development opportunity on the edge of Eglinton Country Park.
“With nearby access on to the trunk road network and a system of cycle and path networks offering active travel and leisure opportunities, new development releases will embrace opportunities for smaller developers and self-builders, extending the range of housing on offer.
“A retail development opportunity is currently being advertised and housing development opportunities will be brought to the market in 2017. Montgomerie Park is a great place to live and I am delighted that this stage of the development is now complete.”
