Robertson raises £6,000 in six months for North East charities
Robertson employees working on construction sites across Aberdeen have raised more than £6,000 in the last six months for local charities and good causes.
Sites including Craiginches, Caledon Court, Pittodrie Street student accommodation and The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA), including its two onsite hotels, have contributed to the fundraising.
Each year, Robertson supports a range of charities in the North East, with monies raised going to charities including Charlie House, Cash for Kids and other worthy causes. The fundraising efforts have taken many forms, from more traditional golf days and bake sales, to the more adventurous zipwire ride in the main arena at TECA.
Robertson also runs a range of events and site visits to help educate young people about the construction industry. More than a thousand young people from across the region have also been given the opportunity to learn more about the industry through ‘Robertson family days’ at the Aberdeen Science Centre and via Robertson’s ongoing programme of school and nursery visits.
Gemma Gourlay, director of social sustainability, said: “At Robertson we do not simply judge our success on the quality of the buildings we produce, but on the lasting value we bring to the communities we serve.
“From constructing a memorial bench at a beauty spot in Torry, to creating a major conference and entertainment venue in TECA, our projects have an impact locally, so it’s important that we stay focussed on the needs of those communities.
“I’m immensely proud of all our employees across our sites in the North East of Scotland, who have been happy to roll their sleeves up and get involved, be it litter picking on Aberdeen Beach or painting Dyce Community Centre. They have also donated 683kg of food and 87kg of clothes to Instant Neighbour since May, in addition to raising more than £6,000 so far for local, worthwhile causes.”
Aberdeen City Council co-leader, Councillor Douglas Lumsden, said: “The Robertson team are to be commended for the help they have provided local organisations and their efforts have made a difference to the city’s communities.
“The new TECA facility, and two hotels, are a part of our Regional Economic Strategy to help the city to grow, so the people living and working in our communities will benefit in the future.”
Looking ahead, Robertson will be one of the main sponsors for this year’s Children’s Hospitals Around Scotland (CHAS) Santa run on the 9 December in Aberdeen. The event will include a Christmas market and plenty of games and activities, all raising money for a great cause.
