RTPI launches ‘one-stop-shop’ resource on gender and planning
The RTPI has launched a ‘one-stop-shop’ resource for members to understand how planning can deliver safe, healthy and sustainable environments for everyone.
Launched to coincide with International Women’s Day, the resource brings together advice, research, practice notes and a toolkit to ensure members have the tools and knowledge for inclusive planning.
Trudi Elliott, RTPI chief executive, said: “International Women’s Day is a reminder that we need to consider a diverse range of needs and experiences in order to shape environments for all. We hope our members will find this a valuable and practical source of information about gender and planning. Understanding how to plan for gender and inclusivity is increasingly important as planners begin to implement the New Urban Agenda, adopted last year.”
The RTPI’s official member magazine, The Planner is again asking searching for the most influential women in planning are (read the 2016 list). It is also publishing special online only content to celebrate the day.
The RTPI Scottish Young Planners Network are hosting an event in the Scottish Parliament to discuss how women can succeed in the world of planning and will announce a new initiative to link gender and the built environment together in Scotland.
The speakers are: Monica Lennon MRTPI, MSP; Nicola Barclay, chief executive of Homes for Scotland; Dr Kate Sang, associate professor of management at Heriot Watt University; Laura Fleming, director of development at Gamesa Wind UK and Kathie Pollard, Urbanistas Edinburgh.
