Safety training director lifts excellence award at Inverness event
Inverness industry champion Billy Sweeney was recognised for excellence at a construction industry dinner held in Inverness last month.
The award was handed out at the Highland Construction and Property Dinner, which raised over £20,000 for local charities while celebrating the industry in the region.
Following a successful career in construction in positions at ROK, Tulloch, CITB, Inverness College and Highland Council, Mr Sweeney founded Safety Training Solutions 14 years ago. Since then, the company has supported over 35,000 individuals with their training needs.
“While I am honoured to have received this award, I would like to acknowledge the immense contribution I have had from colleagues over the years which have made my journey possible,” said Mr Sweeney.
“We take great pride in the work that we do enhancing people’s skills and qualifications and supporting businesses to do well and stay safe.”
The sell-out event was hosted by STV journalist Nicola McAlley in the Drumossie Hotel and attended by more than 330 people. After-dinner entertainment was provided by former professional football referee Kenny Clark.
Four Highlands charities will benefit: HALO (Highland Action for Little Ones), My-self Management, Sea Scouts and gardening initiative GROW Project.
Scott McLean, a member of the organising committee, said: “It was another fantastic evening where the Highland construction and property sectors came together to recognise achievements and raise funds for local charities.”
The donations from the charity raffle will help a wide range of worthy causes: HALO uplifts and empowers disadvantaged children by providing essential support and resources, My-self Management raises awareness of the difficulties of living with chronic conditions, Sea Scouts offer fun, challenging and life changes adventures for young people and GROW Project is a vocational gardening initiative.
This was the 11th Highland Construction and Property Dinner with the annual event organised by the Scottish Building Federation, the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
