Sanctuary Scotland has handed over the final set of keys at its new 128-home Anchor Court development in the Yoker area of Glasgow.

The £21m development – designed by Glasgow-based MAST Architects and built by contractor CCG – has delivered a range of high-quality one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments on the site of a disused former Scottish Power depot at Hawick Street.

The new homes include 56 for social rent, 36 for mid-market rent and 36 that have been purchased by first-time buyers under the Scottish Government’s shared equity scheme.

Sustainability has been at the forefront of the development, with electrical vehicle charging points on site, solar panels providing lighting and electricity in communal areas, and ample cycle storage to encourage sustainable travel.

Accessibility has also been a key consideration, with 12 of the apartments specifically designed for wheelchair users.

Residents Mr and Mrs Murphy said: “We were offered a property as we were homeless and have health issues. We moved in December last year and we love it here! Our property is perfect for our needs and is our forever home.’’

Glasgow City Council supported the scheme with a grant of £10m.

Councillor Kenny McLean, convenor for housing, development, built heritage and land use, said: “This fantastic new affordable housing development from Sanctuary Scotland in Yoker will help provide the housing we need in the city and will contribute to our ambitious housing targets.

“Glasgow City Council is delighted to have supported this development, working closely with all our partners.”

The development has already received wider recognition, being shortlisted in the Large Affordable Housing Development of the Year category of the 2023 Scottish Home Awards.

Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s development director for Scotland, said: “We’re committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes for local people, and it’s been a real privilege to see this fantastic development take shape and help us deliver on that commitment.”
