Sanctuary delivers 265 new homes at Donside Village regeneration

Sanctuary Scotland has completed the final phase of its Donside Village regeneration in Aberdeen, providing a further 61 high-quality new homes for local people.

Overall, the £42 million development has delivered a total of 265 new homes, with a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments including 144 available for social rent.

The new homes have been built in partnership with the Scottish Government, which awarded Sanctuary Scotland a grant of £4.7m, and Aberdeen City Council.

Sustainability has been a key factor of the regeneration, with solar panels providing electricity to the flats, an electric vehicle club, and future plans to install electric vehicle charging points.

Accessibility is also an important aspect of the project, with all of the ground floor flats designed to be wheelchair adaptable.

The new homes were designed by Halliday Fraser Munro and built by Aberdeen-based Robertson Construction Eastern.

Alan West, chair of Sanctuary Scotland’s Board of Management, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve completed the Donside Village Regeneration.

“It’s been a major project that has really transformed the area and it’s a privilege to provide much-needed new high-quality homes for local people.”

Housing minister Paul McLennan added: “We want everyone to have a safe, warm affordable home that meets their needs.

“The Scottish Government has provided £4.7m funding to support the delivery of these 61 new high-quality homes for social rent to help meet the housing needs of people in Aberdeen. This is part of our commitment to deliver at least 110,000 affordable homes across Scotland by 2032.”

Councillor Miranda Radley, convener of Aberdeen City Council’s Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee, commented: “We welcome the final phase of these high-quality new homes from Sanctuary Scotland in Aberdeen.

“They are a great addition to the number of social homes in the city and the high sustainability features will ensure they are fit for the future as well as comfortable to live in for residents.”
