There is still time to make your voice heard on the completion of Scotland’s Land Register.

Registers of Scotland (RoS) is running a consultation on the completion of the Land Register after Scottish ministers invited the government organisation to complete the Land Register in 10 years, including registering all public sector land within five years.

Completion is possible for the first time thanks to the Land Registration etc. (Scotland) Act 2012, which comes fully into force in December this year.

Fergus Ewing, minister for energy, enterprise and tourism, said: “Understanding who owns Scotland’s land is fundamental to underpinning strong economic development and business growth.

“This consultation will develop our commitment to completion into a reality, with advice and opinions from those at the heart of the Scottish land and property market.”

Sheenagh Adams, Keeper of the Registers of Scotland, said: “Completion of the Land Register is hugely significant for the people of Scotland, and an exciting and challenging task for Registers of Scotland and our customers.”

Ms Adams added: “We have already begun working towards the changes that will allow the Register to be completed through the Land Registration etc. (Scotland) Act 2012.

“We now look forward to engaging with our stakeholders and together working out the most effective ways to achieve the very best for Scotland.”

The consultation paper considers and asks for views on the tools available to complete the Land Register, including the use of statutory levers to speed up first registrations.

Don’t miss your chance to have your say by completing a consultation response by 4 November at ros.gov.uk.
