Scottish Government upholds CALA planning appeal at Craibstone

An appeal against an Aberdeen City Council decision to reject a planning application for additional properties at a CALA Homes site has been upheld by the Scottish Government.

The housebuilder’s plans to deliver 16 homes at its Craibstone development were rejected by the local authority last year.

It is understood the planning department’s concerns related to the retention of trees in the area.

The application was to add to the 144 homes already approved as part of phase one of the development.

CALA was given planning permission in principle for a 700-home masterplan for the area in 2016.

Welcoming the development, Mike Naysmith, managing director at CALA Homes (North), said: “We are very pleased that this decision has been taken. It will allow us to complete phase one of a landmark development for the North East, which provides much needed, varied housing and is already proving very popular with home seekers in the region.

“Our plans have been carefully crafted over a 10 year period, in conjunction with SRUC, the local community and the council, to ensure the woodland at Craibstone is more accessible and compatible with the housing nearby, but also maintained and its value enhanced as a woodland and biodiversity resource into the future.

“We look forward to moving ahead with this pocket of homes, and the wider development.”
